Dealing with an Asbestos Roof? Call the Roofing Contractors at A.M.J Metal Roofing for Asbestos Roof Removals in Brisbane or Gold Coast

According to the Australian government, asbestos was imported into the country from 1963 to 1983 and mined domestically until 1984. The government also estimates that about one-third of all homes in Australia contain asbestos in some concentration. Due to its versatility, durability and low cost, the material was highly popular for residential building projects up until the mid-1980s. As a result, if your home was built before 1990, there is a good chance that at least some of the materials used in the construction included asbestos.

Removing Asbestos Roofing

At A.M.J Metal Roofing, we can help to eliminate asbestos from your home. Our roofing contractors in the Brisbane and Gold Coast areas are licenced to complete the removals of asbestos roofing. Roof sheeting and capping were just two of the many applications for which they used asbestos in its peak. A.M.J Metal Roofing can remove roofs that contain asbestos and replace them with safer and more durable metal roofing.

If your roof has asbestos and you need to replace it due to leaks or general wear and tear, then you need to hire a roofing contractor in Brisbane South Side or North Side who is licenced to handle asbestos-containing materials. Not all roofers in the area fit this description, but A.M.J Metal Roofing does. Please note, however, that we do not perform asbestos removals from other parts of the home. If you have asbestos in your flooring or insulation, for instance, you will need to work with a different asbestos remover to handle those issues. We cannot remove internal asbestos materials unless our estimator discusses differently with the client.

When to Call our Roofing Contractors for Asbestos Removal in Brisbane North Side or South Side

If your roof contains asbestos but is in reasonably good condition and doesn’t require repairs or replacement, should you still have the asbestos containing materials removed? This question is one of the enquiries that we receive most frequently at A.M.J Metal Roofing, and there is no ‘absolute’ answer.

On one hand, asbestos in roofing is not nearly as dangerous as most internal types of asbestos. A roof with asbestos will release traces of the substance into the air over time, just due to the decay and wear and tear of time. However, most of these traces will either dissipate on the wind or be washed away by the rain. They pose very little risk—either to the people living in the home or to neighbours and passers-by.

On the other hand, eventually the roof will need to be replaced, and only asbestos removal professionals can handle that task. Furthermore, asbestos in a roof can become a public safety risk in the event of a fire, a cyclone, an earthquake or any other disaster which may damage or destroy the home. Each of these events will allow significant amounts of asbestos to escape into the air, which can be detrimental to the neighbourhood as a whole. Because of these risks, many homeowners choose to remove and replace asbestos containing roofs sooner rather than later.
